The Bus arrived here in eastern North Carolina just a few days before the Elkins, WV 2019 MARC National Tour meet in mid May. Ken Ehrenhofer is coordinating this project and brought many parts to help in this project -- including a fresh rebuilt short block donated from 'Antique Engine Rebuilders'.
May 18, 2019 arrival of chassis:
July 1, 2019 the chassis was given a once over with a pressure washer to remove a good portion of the years of dirt, grime and rust.
July 20, 2019 a group from our Coastal Carolina A's club met to begin the dismantling of the chassis. Those present were: Don, Larry, Richard, Grier, Max, Wayne, Vivian, Randall and Norman. As you can see all hands were on deck:
Engine & Transmission removal.
Front Axle Removal:
But first we need to remove the spare front axle assembly resting on top of the chassis.
We placed it outside temporarily out of the way and then jumped on removing the Front Axle, Brake Rods, Cross Shafts, Fender Braces and all bolt on accessories.
What did I come over here for.........?
Front Axle off at this image, working on removing the front spring assembly and beginning the removal of the short shaft and u-joint assemblies.
Next we concentrated on removing the rear end and springs.
The guys playing "tug-of-war" the "AA" way!!
And a few "Trophy Shots" for conquering the Chassis!
But WAIT! we aren't finished yet. One more high pressure washing of the chassis before we call it a day.
And then a little inspecting of future tasks and repairs that we need to do before sandblasting, priming and paint.
We started our day around 9:15 am and finished about 3:15 pm. Pretty good progress for 6 hours (including lunch). We have tentatively planned our next work session Aug 17th or the 24th. Our plans are to disassemble the front axle, rear end and attempt some welding repairs to the chassis.
