June 24 we started our Blue Ridge Parkway adventure at Afton Mountain going south. Below is our first photo stop picture. Very beautiful!
Our next stop was the Natural Bridge State Park.
Then it was off to the Peaks of Otter Lodge and we experienced a beautiful sunrise over the Peaks of Otter.
Now June 25th we ventured into Bedford VA to visit the National D-Day Memorial.
Our next stop was at the Woodbury Hotel in Meadows of Dan which is right on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Its a nice little hotel that has seen its better days, but was very pleasant. The following morning we ventured along the Parkway to Mabry Mill for breakfast. Here are our Model A's lined up in their parking lot.
Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of the Mill because it was a drizzly morning, but for those that have never seen Mabry Mill the following are some images.
So off we go after breakfast down the foggy Blue Ridge Parkway to our next stop to stay for a few days in Blowing Rock, NC.
And later that day after the fog had lifted.
Once we arrived in Blowing Rock we had to venture into town for some well deserved Kilwin's Ice Cream (home of the second best fudge in the world too).
June 27 we venture to the Moses Cone Manor. The entire estate is one of the most heavily visited areas along the Parkway and is home to the Parkway Craft Center.
The view from the porch.
Later we head off to Grand Father Mountain to test our 90 something year old vehicles!
And proof that we made it up the mountain (the handsome guy is behind the camera)
And across the gangway to the peak.
Picture of our Model A's from the peak.
And a few as we leave.
And we left just in time!!
Actually this a picture of a picture inside the gift shop....luckily we weren't there when this fella wanted to shop. On our last day we went to "The Blowing Rock" where legend has it that a despondent Indian brave -- torn between his crush on an Indian maiden and his manly responsibilities -- threw himself to certain death off of this rocky precipice. The maiden prayed at the outcropping until the brave was blown back into her arms!
None of us wanted to test the effectiveness of the Blowing Rock to blow us back!
The next day we headed home from a great adventure. We traveled approximately 1,200 miles on this Blue Ridge Parkway excursion.
